Webmaster Links

If you're looking for links, look no further than the masterpost Resources List for the Personal Web by 32bit Cafe. It's a collection of just about anything you could need for whatever you're aiming to do.

The links I've collected are just my favorites, and useful pages to keep on hand!

  • HTML-CSS-JS.com
    • Just go to the site, it might genuinely be the only one you end up using. Summarizing every tool this site has would fill the page.

    • A variety of CSS components that use pure CSS to get the job done, no JS or external libraries needed.
  • Hover.css by Ian Lunn
    • A comprehensive list of quick hover effects you can apply to elements with CSS. Has a demo of each effect to mouse over!

  • 1001 Fonts
    • A whole lot of free to use fonts, as long as you're not using them on commercial sites!

    • Huge collection of ASCII art! Make sure you leave the 'jgs' watermark intact on the ASCII art if you're using any.
  • RealWorld Graphics
    • A site that has a suite of tools for making cursors, icons, and favicons - and has a big collection of things others have made!
  • OpenGameArt.org
    • A place to find open source game assets, both 2D and 3D. Always important to check the terms of individual assets before using, as many assets require proper accreditation.
  • Fool Lovers
    • Technically a site that contains both graphics and site layouts! Has a bunch of stuff, though be sure to translate the page to check terms and conditions before using any assets.
  • HabboEmotion
    • A comprehensive collection of all the pixel art and assets from Habbo Hotel! The furniture assets alone are very cute, and it's a fun site to browse if nothing else.
  • Pixel-Soup by mellowhirl
    • A tumblr blog filled to the brim with pixel art sets, either created by mellowhirl or reblogged from others. A lot of these have no credit :(
  • Whimsical by Jo
    • Adorable pixel art, backgrounds, bullets, cursors, and more! This is where the cute bullet points on this page come from!
  • Neocities Comment Widget by Ayano
    • A really simple guestbook or comment widget that's fully customizable. It's what I use for my guestbook! I like how it links to Google Drive, making managing comments easy in a neat little spreadsheet.
  • Neocities Hit Counter by Dannarchy
    • A native hit counter for Neocities that comes with a full tutorial on what the code does, and how to implement it.
  • eSheep Desktop Pet by Adrianotiger

  • Freezeframe JS by Bechno Kid
    • A tutorial on making a pause button for flashing images on a site, like gifs with intense colors.

  • boxboxHTML by Sean S LeBlanc
    • A handy tool for making a custom layout via drag-n-drop and scaling.

General Links

Sometimes I come across links I think are cool or useful, and they are usually forgotten about. They like to hide away in a folder on my bookmarks bar, or live on a masterpost I reblogged 2 years ago on Tumblr and can never find my way back to.

Think it's time to remedy that with my own little collection! There's no rhyme or reason to these, but I'll be organizing them the best I can.

A collection of links relating to the indie web in no particular order.

  • Marginalia
    • An open-source search engine for the indie web, focusing on non-commercial sites from independant creators.
  • Wiby
    • Another indie web search engine that requires user site submission before a page is indexed. All pages are manually added, and it aims to make the web feel connected again!
  • Interacting with other websites by 32bit Cafe
    • A short guide on what it means to be a netizen on the indie web, and what behaviour you can take towards making the net a friendlier place.

Various links that center around music, audio, and video.

  • Midomi
    • Don't know the title or lyrics of a mainstream song, but you know the tune? Hum it! Like Shazam, but useful anytime.
  • Every Noise at Once by Glenn McDonald
    • An algorithmically generated scatter-plot of musical genres, based off of data from Spotify. Find something new to listen to, learn about a new genre, or get lost in a rabbit hole of soundbytes.
  • MyNoise by Dr. Ir. Stéphane Pigeon
    • The background ambience site of your dreams. There's a large variety of sounds to choose from that suit all kinds of moods, and playback can be altered quite heavily for the perfect sound. A one-stop-shop for relaxing background noise!
  • Radio.garden
    • Live radio stations all around the world. Spin the globe and tune in to hear everything from music to world news!
  • SpotX
    • A modified Spotify executable for Windows that bypasses ads, logging, and the need for premium. Also has some neat experimental features.
  • xManager
    • Same as the above, but for mobile! Includes many options for install such as app theme, install version, etcetera. Only for Android devices.
  • yt-dlp
    • The best open-source multimedia downloader for YouTube. If you read up on the documentation and spend a little time setting it up, you'll never have to go to a sketchy site again for high quality .mp3 or .mp4 files.
  • Dopebox.to
    • Almost any movie or TV show you could need, free and available for high quality streaming. Streaming services are the new cable, don't waste your money.
  • Animension.to
    • Similar to Dopebox.to, but for all things anime. For a year's worth of a Crunchyroll subscription, you could buy around 3 POP-UP PARADE figures. I know which one I'm taking.

A mix of tutorials, older games that can be ran via emulation, and free games I think are worth looking at.

  • /r/Roms Megathread
    • A focused megathread for ROMs of all kinds, from retro to more modern games like the 3DS. Sister community with /r/Piracy!
  • 3DS Hacking Guide
    • If you have a 3DS and any interest in making it into a one-stop shop for your Gameboy, DS, DSi, and 3DS titles - this is the site for you. Even if you don't want to download ROMs, the custom themes alone are worth it!
  • Most Complete Amiibo Set
    • A full set of amiibo as of January 13, 2023. Has .bin files that can be used directly with emulators, or put onto NFC chips for use with actual consoles.
  • TagMo for Android
    • An Android-only app that allows you to read, write, and edit amiibo data. I used it to create custom NFC coins that work with my Switch. Easy to store and fun to make, and you get all the in-game goodies from having an amiibo.
  • Sims 4 + DLC
    • You need to make an account on the form to see all links needed for install, but compared to the $1,200+ this would cost you otherwise, I believe it's a fair trade. Just make sure you have enough space between the hundreds of GB worth of expansion content AND all those CC downloads you've had since 2014.
  • Pokémon Reborn
    • I've had this bookmarked for years at this point. I've heard it's good! It looks good. Remind me to pick this up instead of replaying Pokémon Platinum for the umpteenth time.
  • CandyBox2
    • An idle game I revist every once in a while. If you haven't heard of it, it's an ASCII browser game about getting candies. It's short and fun, except for the lighthouse puzzle that I have to look up a guide for every time :[

A collection of useful tools for things not quite web dev. Some are niche for my own personal projects, and others are a top result in DuckDuckGo. Either way, they're here!

  • Wormhole
    • Share files up to 10GB with friends, completely free! The site uses end-to-end encryption and expiring links to help protect your privacy.
  • ColorSpace
    • A color palette generator that gives a variety of palettes from any given color. Also has a gradient editor that provides CSS code.
  • DeepL Translator
    • A translation tool that is far better than Google Translate. GT works in a pinch, but if you're trying to do anything more complicated than basic understanding, this is a good tool.
  • Discord Timestamp Generator
    • Creates markdown text which displays times in each user's local timezone when posted to Discord.
  • Discohook
    • A free tool that utilizes webhooks to send embed messages in Discord servers. Unlimited and editable, and you can recover embeds if you invite the Discohook Discord bot into your server.
  • Invisible Unicode Seperator
    • What it says on the tin, allows you to copy an invisible seperator unicode symbol. I use this all the time for formatting Discord channel names.
  • UtaFormatix
    • An application for converting project files amongst voice synth softwares. Think VOCALOID to SynthV.
  • SynthV Phonemes by TiredPcholka
    • A reference chart for manually typing out phonemes in SynthV to get the pronunciation you're looking for.
  • Icon || Idol
    • Designs for SynthV and VOCALOID software who weren't given faces. The site has images you can import into the editing software, and each design looks great. I'm a particular fan of Mai and Weina!
  • Magic Poser Web
    • Tool that allows you to pose a 3D model for drawing reference, like a digital version of the little wooden guys.
  • Wordsnstuff by Kate Joy
    • A great selection of resources when it comes to writing advice. There's things like tips on describing physical things, building magic systems, a full suite of resources for designing and describing characters, and more!

Some would say a list of directories as a subsection within a link directory is redundant. Anyway, here's a list of pages to go to when you need more pages to go to!

  • Beyond... the Blackstump
    • A hand-curated reference directory that has been on the net since 1995! The amount of links here puts most other directories that aren't actual search engines to shame. If you're trying to figure out where to look for decent information on a topic, check here first.
  • /r/Piracy Wiki
    • A reference I keep in my pocket at all times. This Reddit wiki is full of links and guides on how to properly navigate the web like a true seafarer. This is not only for media, but things like textbooks, emulators, software, tools, porn, and anything else you could find yourself needing on the web. Be free!
  • totse
    • I'd reccommend turning on your VPN for this one, but it's a fun read. This is a large list of text files on various topics that raise a few eyebrows. Information may be outdated, illegal, or entirely made up - but it's a great way to spend the evening.

Browser extensions and things I can't be without. I use Firefox as a web browser, and DuckDuckGo as my search engine.

  • Pixel-Punk Dynamic Theme composed by Don-Tan
    • Art by Valenberg, theme was composed but not created by Don-Tan. Dark mode browser theme with a Cyberpunk pixel backdrop.
  • Momentum
    • A clean and customizable New Tab screen. The background changes daily. There is an optional paid upgrade for more features, but it will not push you to purchase or have intrusive pop-up ads to upgrade.
  • Dark Reader
    • A simple extension that changes the look of any site to either dark, light, contrast, grayscale, or sepia mode. Works on any site, and is extremely customizable.
  • uBlock Origin
    • An open-source adblock extension that makes the web bearable. I don't think I've seen an ad in years.
  • FastForward
    • An extension that bypasses link shorteners like Adf.ly or Bit.ly. It gets you where you need to go without waiting, as well as prevents your IP from being logged in data tracking sites.
  • ClearURLs
    • Helps to remove tracking data from URLs as you browse. This protects your privacy, and looks cleaner when you copy-paste a link to share with friends.
  • Search by Image by dessant
    • Extension that allows effortless reverse image searches on a variety of search engines. Extremely useful when trying to find original image sources!
  • Translate Web Pages by FilipePS
    • A simple extension that translates webpages using Google Translate or Yandex without having to open a new tab. Seamless translation display, making it easier to explore websites in any language.
  • SponsorBlock for Youtube by Ajay Ramachandran
    • Extension that automatically skips over sponsored and or self-sponsored segments of Youtube videos. Highly customizeable and constantly updating with user-submitted skips. RAID Shadow Legends who?
  • Return Youtube Dislike by Dmitry Selivanov
    • Brings back the dislike button on YouTube so you can actually see what people thought of the video. Invaluable for tutorial videos, funny for everything else.
  • Youtube NonStop by lawfx
    • An extention that dismisses the inactivity pop-up when watching Youtube videos back to back. Listen to playlists again without interruptions!
  • Shinigami Eyes by Kiran
    • An extension that highlights usernames of those who are trans-supportive or anti-trans. User submitted reports highlight people or organizations on Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, Tumblr, YouTube, search engine results, and more.

Credits

The modern web has a huge issue with proper accreditation, especially so in the cases of artists or indie content producers. I want to ensure I'm doing my best to avoid that pitfall.

This is an attempt at a good faith accounting for anything you see on my site. Anything left uncredited is either made by me, or unknown. If I've missed anything, please let me know!

Many uncredited gifs and images are provided by GifCities, a preserved collection of the old web by the InternetArchive.
